Everyone can talk about burnout and urban anxiety. Yet somehow, only a few make space for the idea that you don’t have to figure it all out just yet. That’s the kind of comfort you’ll find in fernvie’s newest single, Dito Muna Tayo sa Pagitan.
It feels exceptionally fitting for the Manila-based band fernvie to tackle that with their hazy guitars and post-punk pulse. Made up of Aaron Vecina on guitar, Dino Solaña on drums, and John Berida on bass and vocals, the three-piece finds a natural balance between its moving parts, with Kaloy Del Puerto’s engineering helping bring post-punk revival, shoegaze, and introspective Filipino indie rock into one sound.
You’ll immediately feel its uncertainty right from the start. It doesn’t sound big, nor does it overwhelm you with grand production, yet for some reason, it manages to burrow its way under your skin. It might feel like wandering through the city you’ve lived in all your life, yet still having no idea where you’re headed on the surface. But once you lean in, there’s something tender about the way it makes peace with not having all the answers. The line, “Dito muna tayo sa pagitan, kahit merong alinlangan,” comes through and suddenly, everything feels easier to sit with.
As fernvie’s first Filipino song, there’s something especially natural about the way the language nestles into their sound. And for anyone caught somewhere between city life and the pressure to have everything figured out, there’s a familiarity here that doesn’t need much explaining; it just lets you recognize yourself in it.
