Chemicals by Moon Construction Kit Is the Alternative We Need

The musical landscape is ever evolving at a speed where you can’t catch up. It’s either you create music for yourself or, as the great Pharrell Williams would say, if you’re creating house music, music that can buy you a house, you have to anticipate the trend a mile away. But that’s not what I’m writing today. I’m writing about Moon Construction Kit’s latest single, Chemicals and why an alternative is needed in today’s scene.

The track started with this synth keyboard lick, accompanied by that distorted keyboard note that perfectly captures that synthy/dark overtone to the overall feel of the track. I appreciate how catchy the main melody is. It’s not that flashy, but it just hits the spot. I love the indie meets electronic feel to it. It’s a refreshing take compared to the rom-com-ish type of songs today.

My process with reviewing music is that I listen to it all day, and every time I listen to this track, the overall feel changes over time. It has a grim and gloomy feel to the overall vibe of the track. I don’t know if it’s because of the high and low vocals, the heavy synth, or the note progression.

The track feels like you’re spiralling down a rabbit hole. Every time I listen to the first few bars of the track, I feel like it’s a soundtrack to a sci-fi film. It’s that good.

Chemicals by Moon Construction Kit is the alternative to the music of today. In a musical landscape of rom-com music, we have a heavily synthed track that’s brave enough to say, ‘I’m here, and I’m different.’
