Cochrane drops the EP “Laggerstätte”: Sounds that Tell a Story

Creativity has no bounds, and music, as one of the major outlets of such, plays a huge part in its expression. Sometimes, music without the usual lyrical content evokes strong emotions in the listeners. It can be excitement, thrill, or anything—the point is, it still tells us something. Cochrane, a rising artist,’s latest release, “Laggerstätte,” offers just that. It is a 33-minute listen that comprises four tracks of ambient sounds that evoke emotions. While the collection lacks the traditional vocals of an artist, this is still a great way to explore the world of this artist, as they bring in a world that’s entirely unique and of its own.

Each note and chord will play the strings of your heart; it will elicit memories as sound proves to trigger strong recollections of events. From the introduction track entitled “The Roiling Cells,” you will be drawn into the unique spiraling sound of this track. It gives off an ethereal vibe because of its synths, yet it also gives off that dark and brooding vibe because of its messy undertones. This track serves as an opening for the whole listening experience in this EP, and each track progresses into another layer of goodness as the tracks go by.

The Cat, the Muse” comes in next in the collection. It is a track that I personally think induces nostalgia upon listening. It gives off a light vibe because of its calm and uplifting sounds. The arrangement of this track is far more organized than the initial track, making it much easier to listen to. The progression of the sound is pretty straightforward; hence, the emotions of the track do not falter. This is by far my personal favorite because it has a meditative effect on me as a listener.

Future Name,” on the other hand, features a slightly futuristic touch of sound (hence the sound, I guess). Cochrane uses some skillful maneuvers of dynamics in this track. In doing so, the progression of the sound creates a sense of story within the music; it somehow tells you a narrative, even without the usual lyrical value. This track evokes all ranges of moods, starting from the serene sounds in its introduction to some parts of intensity in its ending. This can also be observed through the final track, “Dad Song.” Both tracks are rich and vibrant, with some parts introducing some thrill through their pulsating yet subtle beats and rhythms.

Overall, Cochrane did a great job of producing the tracks featured on his EP “Laggerstätte.” It properly featured his great skillset as a producer and sound engineer. His tracks were able to create and evoke emotions and memories through enjoyable and ambient sound. The rarity of this skill is undeniable; hence, Cochrane is an artist that the crowd should watch out for! Do not sleep on this release! Check out Cochrane’s “Laggerstätte,” now available on Spotify!
