As someone who has had extensive experience and connection with music (having studied at the Conservatorium of Music), Jovi will captivate you with his artistry as a one-man orchestra dropping his newest EP, “Call It A Day.” This collection is packed with the entertaining creativity of this artist, featuring the twisted and potent structure of sounds depicting gritty stories taken from the experience of this artist.
From the outset, let us make things clear: this album is one helluva sound—it is authentic, it is catchy, and it is interesting. Opening with the track “Asshole” as if being yanked through your collar because of its aggressive hard-hitting drums and gritty-twangy guitar work. The echoing and repeated lines of “I am the asshole,” as punctuated by pounding drum beats, felt like a raising of the heartbeat, which was intensified by the intense singing laced with subtle effects, which added an extra layer of grit, making the song more catchy and confrontational. “Asshole” is an introduction—it is potent, rebellious, and unfiltered—punk ain’t dead.
“Lil Bo Weep,” on the other hand, is a track that will shake you awake as this next song intensifies with drums and a speed-up tempo. This is chaos—but good. The angst and aggression are felt and rightfully delivered through the great performance by Jovi Skyler.
With “Frankenstein,” the collection appeared to be slowing down, not with intensity and vibe but with more of its tempo and sound. This is a track with a great blend of slow rock elements with punk undertones and resonating lyrics that depict despair and self-searching. Its acoustic background is a contrast to all the chaos (metaphorically speaking), and it beautifully evokes authenticity and raw emotions in the track, showcasing the depth of Jovi’s craft.
Finally, “Rumble” closes this whole collection with a rightful bang! The upbeat and potent energy is back along with the track’s unique and infectious grungy sound and arrangement.
