On some rare occasions, there are projects that will make you stop and wonder, “What did just happen?” upon first listen, and that is exactly what happened to me after checking out the new EP of Eliza Harrison Smith, “The Way I’m Wired.”. Eliza’s rise in the music industry is not by accident; the 60k monthly listeners on Spotify? The spots earned on Apple Music’s New Music Daily playlists, Spotify’s Fresh Finds and some global radio plays? She deserves more than that! This EP is something that will hit you in the gut—not only is it all an enjoyable listen, but her music reflects our realities—the mess that we are as human beings! It is relatable, and I am absolutely sure it is something that you would enjoy.
It’s impressive how Eliza’s music can connect to her listeners on a deeply personal level; not only that she’s singing her thoughts and emotions out, but upon listening to this collection, it felt like she’s plucking all her words out of the deepest depths of my mind if that even makes sense. It started with the opening track, “Backslide,” and I couldn’t help but physically nod in agreement as I went for a listen. While it is indeed upbeat in nature, the lyrics just hit hard as Eliza sings about the struggles to maintain and get a hold of yourself, only to get back into old habits and patterns because, as she said, “it’s so easy to backslide”. It is indeed a common struggle, and for sure, you would also agree that there are times when you think you have made significant progress, and then—bam!—back to square one! What a great intro to Eliza’s music!
What I like the most about Eliza’s music is the way she captures every emotion that she wants to release and just writes the right words to describe it. With the tracks “Bring You Down” and “Supposed to be Happy,” she had managed to make such heavyweights feel so relatable through her words. While Bring You Down speaks about the relatable times when we carry ourselves strong just for the sake of someone else, Supposed to Be Happy, on the other hand, is about feeling guilty and indifferent in moments that are supposed to be fun, but you can’t just bring yourself to care, something that is very relatable to all of us. I have to admit, this is some Taylor Swift-Olivia Rodrigo-Sabrina Carpenter-level stuff here, and this sure deserves A LOT of attention from the public. Contradiction
Now, my favorites in this collection are the tracks “Contradiction” and “Hypocrite.”. These tracks have struck me on a deep and personal level; it’s just so…real. Listening to these tracks felt like opening up to a friend on a warm, cozy night. The words that Eliza sang on these tracks reflect not only her story but also mine, which is endearing in a way, and also, I felt like I was being called out. It also felt therapeutic, listening to all those words while it played out, and true enough, the pain is there as the moment of recognition kicks in. But Eliza’s honesty and careful play of words, along with the way she’s singing her lines, make all these tracks compelling and easy to listen to. These tracks are sure bangers!
Honestly, I’m so excited to hear more from Eliza Harrison Smith after this strong EP, “The Way I’m Wired.”. It is a strong for this rising artist, and while I can’t stop blabbing about how well-written all her tracks were, I can absolutely vouch for how well-produced and top-tier-sounding her tracks were. The production was clean and friendly, and Eliza’s vocals? It’s great; it complements the whole vibe of the EP and each of the tracks that it features.
So, follow Eliza Harrison Smith! Don’t miss out on this beautiful release! Stream “The Way I’m Wired” now! I can’t wait to see more of her in the future, but for now, let me listen to all these tracks on repeat!
