MrSpoonySpoonz – VALHALLA Volume One

VALHALLA Volume One is a five-song EP by MrSpoonySpoonz. The EP is a blend of hip-hop and boom-bap rap. It’s a style that was popularized in the 80s and is still making waves today. Let’s do a deep dive and see what makes it different.

Let me start with the 1st track of this EP. Everyday is the hustle theme song. I’ve listened to the song too many times to the point that I realized I was not doing enough. The hustler mindset has the mentality of being on top regardless of how gloomy and hourless the grind is. The song talks about reaching your goals, not minding the haters, and exploring the depths of hard work. LIKE NO OTHER.

Overall, placing Everyday as the 1st track of the EP is a great move. If I’m going to look at it from a storyline perspective, it’s best to let everyone know that this EP was made from blood, sweat, and tears hence “I work too much to feel a thing hustle everyday”.

Gat is a clear warning to everyone that MrSpoonySpoonz is not be messed with. From Everyday to Gat, there is a huge shift in terms of lyrics and flow. The flow is faster and the cadence is different compared to Everyday. However, you can now see the branding that makes MrSpoonySpoonz a 1 of 1 artist and that is the chorus hook. The chorus hook on both songs is what I call “the artist identity”. Every artist has this sound identification that sets them apart from the others because it’s a flow or a sound that they can only create. With MrSpoonySpoonz, the chorus hook is his “artist Identity”.

Bong Bowls And Raw Cones is a song by MrSpoonySpoonz featuring Master Ke and what makes it different from all the tracks on this EP is that it has a simple chorus hook. It’s catchy and it’s easy to remember. The beat and the bass line of this song are out of this world. Coming from a musician’s POV, the bass line is a banger! Who would’ve thought that a distorted and envelope-filtered added with a bit of wah effect as a bass line in a rap song could work? To be honest, not in a million years but in this song, it perfectly works!

Holding My Hand talks about love. Reminiscent love. The what-ifs of a broken relationship. I have to be honest, It’s not the best track. The song was poorly written compared to the previous tracks, making it a great filler song for this EP.

Placing Paradise as the last song of this EP is a great move because MrSpoonySpoonz showcased his flow and lyrical prowess on a whole different level. Mr. Mixa made sure that the beat on this track would hype everyone making it a great contender as the 2nd single for this EP.

Overall, VALHALLA Volume One is a well-balanced EP. It gives room for MrSpoonySpoonz to make fans like me wonder, what will Volume Two sound like?
