Pri James Dazzles with EP “Ellipsis”

With her long history of being entangled in music and performance, “Ellipsis” serves as Pri James’ mark in the industry, outside her past musical involvements within the communities she’s been part of.

The EP consists of four songs, each with a similar yet different feel in terms of sound and how everything is arranged and produced. As for the songwriting aspect, it’s all structured like it’s meant to be remembered by listeners, which is effective. But, it will get you wondering what each song means, leaving you wanting more.

“Round and Round”, the first track, piques curiosity on Pri James as an artist, especially for first time listeners. As such, this serves as the first impression for everything: her genre, her vocals, or maybe an idea of what other artist that comes to mind with her music. “Blue and Gold” has such a freeing aura and good vibes.

“Get Down” begs the question of ‘is this about struggle or love?’ when maybe it’s both. It has lyrics like “How could you be so cruel? And how could I be such a fool?” and “Bring the ship around / I wanna go south”. Meanwhile, “Walls Down” almost has the same theme, with a little tempo change during the chorus, which is a bit endearing. “I don’t need to know your secrets but don’t stay isolated from yourself” is probably my favorite line from it.

It’s interesting, because the first and last track has the feel of genuine confusion and self-actualization, while the second and third ones have themes of love. What’s nice about songs with recurring lines that are just all for the vibes is that people can really speculate and put their own spin or interpretation to the art. On another note, others may get curious and just go ahead and listen to every Pri James song there is just to know what she’s like.
