Ravetank’s EP Is A Beautiful Clutter Of Sound

Mid Life Crisis Paul McCartney (Rick’s Version) consists of two tracks, and it’s guaranteed to put you in a whirlwind of sound once you give it a shot. Ravetank seemingly aims to engage audiences through what they can offer through reverberating rhythms and their distinct ambience.

For the first track of the same name, the vibe is exactly what you would expect: a mid-life crisis. It’s noise that would not be entirely impossible to be described as mayhem, and just somewhat the audio version of a mid-life crisis, or any crisis known to man in general.

It makes one wonder what made the band choose Paul McCartney as the subject matter; is it because of his sound? Is it somewhat influenced by his music, with a wicked twist of Ravetank’s own signature sound of edgy tunes? Is it an inside joke or a well-known reference that I alone am missing? Curiosity aside, how everything sounds, is layered and arranged, is completely justifiable and goes well with what the band is aiming for.

With the second song “Burrito Babe – Rick’s Version”, the fact that everything about how raw and authentic the sound is is noticeable. The bass is not overshined as it seldom is in songs, heck, every component has its own moment. “Crying my eyes out” are the words sung between gaps. Dynamics are great as well, and amidst the noise midway, you still find yourself with your head bobbing to the rhythm, just the mere presence of the vocals underneath everything can still connect things together.

Once it reaches the five minute mark, another segment emerges, the static and feedback molding itself to another distinct sound, a breakdown. It’s the type of song that’s a great contender for band competitions, just showing how well you play the guitar, the drums, the bass, and everything else. Some would say it’s a beautiful mess, but all it takes is looking into the track, really appreciating and taking note of every element present with this six minute song.

Overall, Ravetank really excels in their art; there is almost nothing else like it, to be able to still draw people over their unique way of combining sounds and layers together. This EP would serve as a great recommendation for someone who digs their genre, is exploring, or to someone who is feeling their feelings and wants to get the same sense from music.
