“Thistroubledsoul” By Highroad No. 28 Is A Dark Alt-Rock That Is Bleak And Bruised

There’s no amount of empty theatrics could ever compensate for the lack of honesty and emotions, because even the loudest riffs or intricate arrangement could fall flat when it fails to resonate. Thankfully, Highroad No. 28 will offer you both musicality and emotional weight with their latest single “Thistroubledsoul”.

Highroad No. 28 was formed in 1998, and is now led by frontman Andrew JC with full creative control before their new live lineup launches for 2026 shows. Now, they’re back with a dark, alt-rock release, “Thistroubledsoul” that dives into inner conflict, endurance and emotional survival.

The band immediately gives you everything the title promised, as if they’ve performed an exorcism to channel a troubled soul straight into the amplifiers. There’s precision in the guitars, while the percussion hits sharp and jagged. The layers are heavy but not the type that will crush you with volume and screams. It’s more of a controlled collapse that leaves you haunted and trembling from distortions.

And then comes the vocals shaking in vulnerability yet surprisingly held together, thriving in restraint and trying hard not to break. Then laid over this delivery are the lyrics that carry more bruises and fragility singing, “this troubled soul, she’s back again and I’m down so low.”

One thing about this track is that it doesn’t try too hard to stand out but it does anyway by letting the pain and turmoil radiate steadily in the mix. There’s no need for loud, explosive theatrics as long as honesty and raw emotion is able to fill the space.

If you like your alternative rock to feel a little too rough and a little too real, Thistroubledsoul by Highroad No. 28 is the song that will strike you straight at the core.
