Everyone is the second album released by Brisbane-based rising artist Riverrrr. Released on August 1st this year, it follows the successful track of the artist’s first release last year. This time, Riverrrr loads up this album with his signature grit and sound, exploring music specifically extending the limits of hip-hop on this 16-track release. “Everyone” is an album that showcases the artist’s growth as an artist and as a musician, which proves the dedication and vast versatility of this artist to produce music that speaks volumes.
At the beginning of this album, Everyone clearly sets its mood through its modern and unique sound with its layered synths, pulsating beats, and melodic undertones, which is clear on its opening track, “Thoughts Take Lives.” This track is rich with sound and definitely textured, brought on by Riverrrr’s spot-on and crips delivery. Followed closely by the track “Lil Everybody,” this song is also packed with the artist’s signature musicality that carries much intensity to keep your focus on this craft as it carries some heavy message about life and its complexities as narrated by the artist.
From the outset, you will also notice how the artist experimented with this sound, creating a vast selection and blend of genres on this album. One of the features that stood out for this release is the crafty and masterful use of voice effects on the tracks, which added character and depth to Riverrrr’s vocals. “New World Order” and “Ripped North Face” successfully feature just that.
Everyone is an album that offers a diverse range of vibes and styles to keep the listener’s attention from start to finish. “Slo” opens with an acoustic guitar with modern-sounding beats and synths as its undertone. The chill vibe produced by its slow beats is catchy and would definitely leave a good impression. It is the same with the track “Forever,” which is my current personal favorite, as the song carries a message of resilience through hardships brought by pain in life as you go along through it.
Moreover, “All I Care For” welcomes you with the angelic singing voice of a female artist who is honestly a breath of fresh air, just like the track Slo. This song is loaded with chill beats and enchanting melodies. “Back to the Wall,” on the other hand, comes in with its jazzy elements, and lastly, “Misdiagnosis” is a combination of everything mushed into the goodness of a one-track. It is melody, synths, drums, and piano that carry a personal and straightforward story of the artist and how misunderstanding and confusion ensure the situation until eventually finding out the truth about misdiagnosis. This track, just like all that is featured on this album, showcases Riverrrr’s ability as a lyricist and storyteller through his thought-provoking words and intricate narrative in each song.
Everyone also features the following tracks that deserve your equal and undivided attention: “Broken, not Broke,” “Still with You,” “Yoyogi,” “Planetrip,” “14 in collaboration with twiggiestar,” “Rose Gold Nokia,” and “Aripiprazole” are tracks that showcase Riverrrr’s versatility as an artist and producer. This album is unique, and it definitely screams potential. From the way each track was carefully written and produced to the way the artist experimented with the way it was performed, this album screams authenticity.
