Icarus Phoenix rises from the ashes with the album “I Should Have Known the Things You Never Said”

One amazing thing about music is its power to tell a story. It can be inspiring, and at times, it can carry the most gut-twisting stories and messages that could rip you apart. In this kind of context, the Baltimore-based band Icarus Phoenix presents their latest music, “I Should Have Known the Things You Never Said.” Released on August 15th, this 10-track collection is loaded to the brim with heavy stories, good sound, and great messages for the listeners. This project is the culmination of years of efforts by the band, which is finally back for their fourth official studio album.

One thing is clear: Icarus Phoenix has gone the extra mile for this release. This album presents a variety of collections that show off the vast coverage of the band in terms of their music. This only proves their dedication and passion towards their crafts, and that love is translated into this one great masterpiece. “The Things You Never Told Me” opens the curtain for this whole album. Right off the bat, your ears will be welcomed with hard-hitting drums that serve as the bass line for this whole track. This track is well-written (spoiler alert: All tracks in this album are well-written), and it carries a heavy message of being hurt and confused after not knowing what is up with your partner. This track perfectly captured the feeling of being confused about how things turned out after not knowing the full extent of the situation. This song is easy to listen to because of its simple structure and its well-placed production; however, it carries a heavy and deep message of sadness and loss.

“Live. Give. Lose. Grow.” is the track that follows. This track goes along with the signature slow indie rock vibe of the band. I personally think that this is a great track that tells you a lesson about how life should be dealt with. Live, so that you’ll have no regrets; give, so that you’ll be fulfilled; lose, so that you’ll carry no burden; and grow, so that you’ll not die. This is honestly one of the top favorite tracks on this album because of how this song was heartfully performed and delivered. The lines and the way it was delivered were also great, so it feels like the track speaks directly to your soul as you listen to it. This is such a jam!

“High Tide,” the third track on this album, on the other hand, features a jazzy and melodic vibe brought by the band’s instrumentation, putting a highlight on the calm sounds of guitar. This is a slight shift in the tone of the band. Needless to say, the lyrics of this track are absolute fire! The lines “You want everything you can’t give” and “You want everything you won’t give.” are just too strong—what is there to not love on this track? Other tracks that are featured on this album that are guaranteed that you will love are “In the Blood,” “Hatillo 2,” “Homeostasis,” “Painting,” and “The Sword and Harp feat. Neva Dinova”. These tracks carry the same deep messages as the other songs in the collection. These tracks will not disappoint!

Again, reiterating what was initially mentioned, this album is packed. In the latter part of this album, the tracks have transcended into something much deeper and closer to the core level. “Doctor! Doctor” is a track that brings in a powerful eye-opener about the realities that we face every day. This is a sad song; there is no denying that. Life is hard, that is true, and this song captured the whole essence of how, at times, the talks with the doctors wouldn’t just work. This is a sad song, and yet it carries a message to go on with life anyway. This is another favorite track because this one tells you the truth—this is real. This speaks about one’s worth and how hard it is to deal with and fight a battler with their inner demons.

“When It’s Time to Go,” on the other hand, is an upbeat track that also speaks about the realities of life. This song would tell you a story about how music is being used to get through all of it and how someone is going to be there with you. This song acknowledges the power of a helping hand when life gets tough. Another beautiful feature on this album is “Kanashimi 哀しみ feat. Lake Mary”. It is an almost 9-minute long slow indie sound that opens with calming chords of instruments from the band followed by the soothing vocals of the singers. Again, this song talks about sadness, yet, I daresay, you can find solace in this track. This selection can help you calm down in your panic or anxiety episodes. With its calm and soothing nature, it can work!

Finally, Icarus Phoenix has done great in completing this loaded album. Production-wise, it is great. Lyrics-wise, it was written in top-notch quality. The vocals and performance are very professional and high-quality. This is a promising release from this band, with great potential to become something big in the industry. There’s strength in this album, especially in the way it was crafted and written. Indeed, this band is no stranger to making quality music; “I Should Have Known the Things You Never Said” guarantees a great listening experience.
