You know what they say: “Eyes can tell lies.” But in this case, there’s no denying that. iies. (read as eyes) has dropped a bop of music! Spotlight is definitely deserved with the album “Don’t Forget the Dot,” released on July 19, 2024. This album is no ordinary collection since it is packed with emotions, messages, and most importantly, AWESOME VIBES!
There are honestly no dull moments on this album. Every track possesses this electrifying and fascinating vibe that will get you pumped up. Head bops are most definitely guaranteed—I assure you that! Not only that, but this album also has a clever purpose. This album will make you understand things—about how people have their own challenges to go through with their lives—and will make you see the world from a different angle.
“Killian’s Descarga” and “Out of Control” are tracks that delve directly into the pressures that life has to offer as well as the effects it has on one’s mental health. iies. straight-up went through all these deep issues immediately. This allows us to peek through their souls; we get to see their mindset and bravery in handling these, which makes these tracks very relatable. In terms of sound and production, these tracks will not disappoint. The V-I-B-E in here is top-notch! These tracks both start off chill with their awesome beats and the addicting jazzy undertones and from the middle up to the ending chords of each song, it’s pure absolute goodness.
Vibin’—that’s the whole general mood when you get to listen to this album. “Graffiti Swing” and “Don’t Forget The Dot” give you that jazz feel with the contrast of a spitfire free-flow rap delivery from the artist performing. “Wings” and “Moon Sign” carry that intense track that could pass as an official soundtrack for an action movie, and finally, “Follow” is a personal favorite as this track is just pure VIBE (idk how many times have I already mentioned the word vibe now). What can I say? I’m seriously just digging this track. The whole production is lit—hip-hop, R&B, jazz, and chill-bop. I’m definitely in!
It is hard to choose favorites from this album because of the great vibe that it provides. “Get Off Miie,” “Good Viiebes,” and “Starlight” fit just that description. It is upbeat and fun! These tracks are mood boosters loaded with the artist’s great rap delivery, exhibiting their prowess as rappers. In these tracks, you will feel the energy coursing through your system because of the way they perform their music. You can feel all their excitement and passion through their songs; hence, this passed the vibe check.
While vibe and great musicality are the two constant elements of this album, the other one is the high-quality storytelling. Through Iies.’s music, they were able to convey compelling messages through the lines that they delivered on their tracks. “JunkYard” is just that. With its R&B-ish hip-hop vibe brought by the slow beats brought by drums, this track tackles a very timely and urgent concern to speak up and fight for a better world. This track is in response to the war that is happening right now in the world, most specifically in Palestine. It is an empowering track that calls for justice to make the world a better place for everyone, especially our children.
At the end of all these, I’m happy to say that I couldn’t choose which track was my favorite. ALL TRACKS ARE JUST SO GOOD! iies. have just released one helluva album! I am sure that you will enjoy this as much as I did. What I love about this is that it’s not only about how good it sounds; it also carries a compelling message that all of us can relate to. From love and friendships to mental health and understanding life, to advocacies such as peace for everyone and every place in the world, what more could I ask for? “Don’t Forget the Dot” deserves your full attention.
